LLUME is a company that builds bespoke 3D web apps. Something I’m deeply passionate about.
I founded the company to serve the growing demand for games technology usage in non-games industries. Our first customer was Carvatar, an automative media company, where we built a 3D scanning app for cars using 3D Gaussian Splatting. With this, Carvatar users can create and share high fidelity 3D scans of cars and connect with car lovers worldwide. We built the full stack prototype in six weeks.
Other applications of games technology can be seen in the medical field, where VR is used for surgical training. In construction, Autodesk is collaborating with Unreal Engine to bring powerful, real-time rendering capabilities to existing assets, workflows and know-how. One of my favourite applications of games technology is in cultural heritage and my last projects as a software engineer at Microsoft was “The world’s first 3D replica of St. Peter’s Basilica”.
We’re witnessing the democratisation of games technology benefiting people and industries well beyond games. And I find it terribly exciting.
My “why” for building LLUME, however, runs deeper. Being a software engineer in the games industry and later in big tech, gave me a path to professional development and upward social mobility for my family. Thus, I am honoured to be in a position where I can nurture and grow talent. Whether I’m helping a startup get seed funding, or onboarding a junior designer to the company, it’s my job to help people succeed.
Where does LLUME come in?
LLUME exists to build really useful things using 3D games technology. This means prioritising accessible UI and UX. We currently build our frontend apps with react and react-three-fiber/threejs, and as we’re full stack, we choose the technologies on the backend.
In this current age of AI, we can provide help our customers solve problems in a hyper focused manner, faster than ever.
The company is young, but the team is seasoned. I worked at Microsoft for 7 years the preceding 6 years I spent at games companies. The contractors I intent to hire were all once my fellow colleagues, of whom I personally worked with and can vouch for.
